Hexham (Elvaston) Bowling Club
Hexham Elvaston Bowling Club
Welcome!
Welcome to the website of
Hexham (Elvaston) Bowling Club
in Northumberland.

The outdoor season has ended and the green is now closed for play. Work on the green was carried out in the week following and now we are hopeful the combination of late summer warmth and rainfall has encouraged the overseeding to germinate successfully and make for a better bowling surface next year. About ten members of the club put in a lot of work to achieve this and we are very grateful for their enthusiasm, good humour and support in getting this all done. Where the green required it further seeding has taken place.
Looking ahead to next year you may want to consider playing bowls with us. If you haven't played bowls before then have a scroll down this page where we hope you will discover some of the many advantages of taking up bowls. In addition we've listed some benefits of joining Elvaston.
Age is no barrier to this sport. People of all ages can compete and partake successfully with one another and the youngest, from the age of about eleven, and eldest bowlers can play in the same game and have a very close match. If you are looking to take up a good, social and enjoyable sport with minimal costs for equipment then bowls will be for you, as well as being very good for you. Do get in touch with us for more details or if you have any questions not answered here on the website. We look forward to hearing from you and meeting up.
It has been very encouraging to see men and women with no previous experience of bowling attend our training sessions on Saturdays and do really well. Some have already dipped their toes into Saturday afternoon jumbles.
New bowlers are often their own harshest critics but there are many reasons for them to feel pleased with how they have done so far. So, well done all of you.
And if you don't fancy outdoor bowling our indoor season rolls off at the club on Saturday 14th at 2.00pm.

Play the Game
Direction of Play
To try to even out the wear on the playing surface we change the direction of play each week and Mike realigns the settings of the rinks on a planned basis. It will either be Hut to Hut (clubhouse at your back) or Hedge to Hedge (hedge at your back). The direction of play will be displayed on the notice board in the clubhouse foyer.
