Hexham Elvaston Bowling Club

in Northumberland.

Spring can't quite make up its mind whether it has sprung yet but work has been ongoing to prepare the green for the opening for practice from Tuesday 7th April. A healthy number of people have already signed up for our free Saturday lunchtime sessions to give bowls a try. They are free with no commitment. Except we think you'll like it and want to join the club! With free coaching and lots of encouragement it really is worth a try. Details of how to sign up are on this Home page.

What's happening soon:

The green will be opening for practice from Tuesday 7th April. The Armstrong Trophy is on Saturday 11th April at 2.00pm. The first week we shall be bowling hut to hut.

Please note that maintenance on the green normally takes place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9.00-11.00am when play is not allowed.

Mixed five triples

Saturdays in the playing season at 1.45 pm for 2.00pm  
All welcome whatever your experience.

Two games of nine ends each. Skips are picked, rest of teams jumbled, skip then selects who plays in each position in their team based on experience taking account of new bowlers.

Jumbles is a fun way of getting to know other members, having some friendly competition, learning the game and improving your bowling. £1 entry fee. Free tea and biscuits taken after the first game.

The first Jumbles of the 2026 season takes place on Saturday April 18th.

Our club competes in each of the three leagues below. Members of all abilities are invited to come in to the clubhouse and look at the sign-up sheets on the notice boards for the league, fixture and date and enter their name on as many sheets as they feel able to commit to. Teams will be selected from the names entered on the sheets. Please don't be disappointed if you are not selected for every match you enter, it's good for as many as possible to have a go.
