Welcome!

We are open and playing again after a year of disruption and lockdown.

Membership at Elvaston is once again on the up after the lost season of 2020.

New bowlers have booked for our free coaching sessions so if you have never tried bowls before or you used to bowl and like to come back to it again then please contact us.

We would love to show you what makes bowls such fun. It is great exercise too.

Players of all ages are welcome and the best national and international

bowlers are all incredibly young.

We want to play

To enable this to happen various procedures remain in place for our own health and safety and to conform to government guidelines and the sport's governing body (Bowls England) instructions.

Competitions

Whatever your standard, either complete beginner or keen competition bowler, we will make it easy to feel welcomed, fit in and enjoy the game. We have three qualified coaches who offer the time and advice for free. Why not join us today?

Application forms are available from the Secretary or may be downloaded here.

Non-members and visitors to our lovely town and county are normally warmly welcomed to play although for 2021 this facility may need to be amended. Please contact the club Secretary in the first instance.

Come on in...

"If you're wanting a real sport for all

Club Sessions

For the new (and experienced!) bowler:

Saturday 'Jumbles' - cost 50p

Rolling off at 2.00pm players who turn up pick a disk from a bag to see which team they will be in. Players are 'jumbled' up at the beginning of each of the three games, hence 'Jumble.' Two teams play each other on each rink (like a lane), depending on how many people attend. At the end of the three games the two highest scoring players win a small prize of a bag of sweets.

These are social occasions, tea and biscuits are served at the end of the second game and fun is the name of the game.  We are finished by about 5.15pm.

This is the ideal starting point for new bowlers. However many long standing and experienced bowlers enjoy Jumbles too. New bowlers should not be put off by that - playing against more experienced bowlers is how we improve our game.

Monday Shield

6.00pm for a 6.15pm start. No charge. Players are formed into teams of three per side (triples) and play 15 ends. We usually finish by about 8.30pm. Towards the end of the season the top six scoring players play off each against each other to see who wins.

Cups and Leagues

For the more experienced (and new!) bowler:

The Club plays in several leagues with matches played home and away on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The Club currently plays in the

following leagues:

The Collins and Shipley League - Wednesday afternoons (Ladies)

The Clegg League -

Wednesday evenings (Mixed)

The Tyne Valley League -

Thursday evenings (Mixed)

We have a number of friendly matches against other clubs, County competitions and internal Cups and Shield to be competed for and these are listed on the drop down menu to this page.

Informal Practice

The Club Green is normally available for informal 'roll-ups' to practice and hopefully improve our game. As a member you may arrange your own game with fellow members and guests.

Please note that during the week the Green will be mown, most often on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Depending on the time of the season this can take from one to two hours. It is often finished by 11.00am. On Saturday afternoons, Monday evenings and at other times, games are usually played. If you wish to play earlier on a weekday morning or just wish to check whether the grass is being cut on a specific day and time, simply contact the Green Ranger, Mr Steve Benson

stevebenson1812@gmail.com

who will be pleased to advise the schedule for that week.
